The overall objective of the Saferinternet RO  project, sigur.info,  is to promote Internet safety for children by establishing a Romanian combined Node consisting of a Hotline, a Helpline and awareness activities. Beside this, the project aims to provide teachers, parents and child protection specialists with knowledge and tools for protecting their children in the new technological environment. The node that is developing this project in Romania is created by a Consortium comprising two non-governmental organizations and one company with extensive expertise in areas directly connected to children’s rights, to child protection and to the current technologies which might call for special preventive measures.

The consortium is formed by:

Save the Children Romania (as program’s CO) has been developing, ever since 1990, social and educational programs for all children, child rights monitoring activities, paying special attention to children in difficulty.

Positive Media, developer of genium.ro and sigur.info portals, dedicated for safe internet navigation, is involved in the promotion of several projects Pro-Life, against alcoholism, drug consumption, as well as support programs for the elderly, children and disadvantaged families.

The Romanian Center for Missing and Sexually Exploited Children – FOCUS has had an important contribution in the decrease of child disappearance and sexual exploitation phenomena through: awareness campaigns for parents and children, mass media involvement, authorities and volunteers' activities.

In order to get to know us better, visit our website: www.sigur.info, our helpline website: helpline.sigur.info, our hotline website: www.safernet.ro, our forum: forum.sigur.info and our blog: blog.sigur.info.

Also, Sigur.info developed  Saferpedia.eu, an on-line encyclopedia (like Wikipedia) that includes definitions and resources on Internet Safety. The Safer Internet Day celebrated nationwide

With Safer Internet Day, celebrated this year on the 9th of February, more schools from the country carried out actions regarding the safety on the Internet.

On the 8th of February 2010, the XI class volunteers of the “Grigore Moisil” Informatics High School from Iasi, have presented to their younger colleges from the V-VIII classes, the Sigur.info program, and also the meaning of the Safer Internet Day. The action, coordinated by Positive Media, had the purpose of informing both teachers and children about the dangers that can occur when using the Internet and the new online and mobile technologies. The volunteers have given flyers, have presented materials and short movies (videos) about the safety on the Internet and discussed about the Sigur.info forum and blog, and also about the Saferpedia.eu on-line encyclopedia. Within this event, on the 9th of February 2010, the Sigur.info program has been presented to children from 5 classes from the AfterSchool EuroPrecepta Iasi, through powerpoint presentations, educational guides and open discussions with the involved volunteers.

In Cluj, the International School, winner of the first price in the “Secondary Schools” section of the Gala Award in Education, 2009 edition, has developed a special program meant to celebrate the Safety Internet Day. Thus, the children, coordinated by the teacher Istrate Ibolya-Ana, will see the “How much are you willing to risk” clip, will present powerpoint papers and materials, and also posters, all with “Our safety on the Internet” theme.
